About
Sophia Parker is an American soprano from Washington State whose artistry is rooted in a deep love of collaborative music and live performance. She is inspired by the ability of performance to create empathy, evoke emotion, and communicate stories that resonate across different audiences and experiences, and believes that music brings people together and invites a deeper, richer way to experience our lives. Across all genres, Sophia is drawn to repertoire that is deeply expressive and mentally engaging.
Fascinated with classical music and live theatre from an early age, Sophia trained in multiple instruments, including violin and piano. Her childhood was filled with collaborative music-making as a means of connecting with others and building meaningful experiences, and these values have continued to guide her throughout her career.
At the age of fourteen, Sophia began formal classical vocal training, which deepened her appreciation for opera and the scope of emotion and stories it could convey. She continued to develop as a performer through participation in choirs, dance lessons, and musical theatre productions, both professional and educational, and went on to study opera and classical technique in her undergraduate degree, where she first started performing in operas.
Currently, Sophia is earning her Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studies under Elizabeth Ritchie. In addition to recent operatic performances, she has explored new works with emerging composers and ventured into voice over work, two areas in which she hopes to continue developing her craft. Outside of music, Sophia enjoys ballroom and Latin dance, boxing, and exceptionally long fantasy novels.
